Lady Aurora

I am pretty lucky to have the opportunity to see Lady Aurora aka The Northern Lights on a regular basis. Living in the north, it's the one pro against some of the colder, darker cons.

I've been working and practicing the art of taking night photos. When you go out with a DSLR and shoot in manual mode, it’s overwhelming and tricky. Then you download the images and have to try and edit them. And when editing is by far the skill you need the most education on…. I have a long way to go.

But boy is it fun and exciting! Getting prepped with gear and clothes and sometimes these 2 boys of mine…. then setting it up and anxiously waiting for the image on the LCD screen to pop up and see if anything you captured was exciting or interesting enough. Adjusting settings or angles or locations… sharing and watching everyone else’s shots… taking in every little nugget of advice and soaking up all the other people excited for your shot.

I’ve joined an amazing group and downloaded apps to help me understand my potential chances of capturing the dancing skies. These people are amazing! It’s never a for sure thing but the preliminary excitement and the aftermath (exciting or disappointing) brings such a great energy. Whether you’re a professional photographer, a newbie like me or using one of these cool smartphones … we are all following the same thing…

Magic.

We sat in my car in the middle of the field Evening of October 30 2021. A cool song came on the radio and they were dancing in the red glow of the taillights.
